Parodies now?

The above image came through my Facebook account this evening, and I was suddenly hit by the urge to attempt to “reasonably rewrite” the lyrics to the theme song to Smokey and the Bandit, “Eastbound and Down”, by Jerry Reed.

It was a fun exercise, and I rather enjoy the result. Apologies to George Lucas and Jerry Reed.

“Core-bound and Down”

A Parody by Anthony Adkins

Chorus:

Core-bound and down, flyin’ fast and speedin’
a’we gonna do what they say can’t be done.

We’ve got a long way to go, and a short time to get there,
We’re flying, just like that Kessel Run!

Verse 1:

Load ’em all inside the Falcon
Han, you know this is cake.
Just shoot first now, ’cause we’ve gotta head to space

The boys want plans and Princess Leia
and there’s droids in the cantina,
For Alderaan, we have gotta save the day!

Chorus:

Core-bound and down, flyin’ fast and speedin’
a’we gonna do what they say can’t be done.

We’ve got a long way to go, and a short time to get there,
We’re flying, just like that Kessel Run!

(Instrumental)

Chorus:

Core-bound and down, flyin’ fast and speedin’
a’we gonna do what they say can’t be done.

We’ve got a long way to go, and a short time to get there,
We’re flying, just like that Kessel Run!

Verse 2:

The Empire’s got them cruisers,
TIEs hot on your six,
Vader is gonna chase till Episode Six

So you gotta shoot him, you gotta strafe him,
You gotta keep those blasters blazing
Just punch it Chewie now, and give it hell!

Chorus:

Core-bound and down, flyin’ fast and speedin’
a’we gonna do what they say can’t be done.

We’ve got a long way to go, and a short time to get there,
We’re flying, just like that Kessel Run!

(Instrumental Outro)
